Nancy Cummings-Schmidt is the retired director of the Washoe County Library System, having served from 1995-2008. Prior to that, she was the Director of the Yuma County Library District in Yuma, Arizona. She began her library career at the Clark County Library in Las Vegas where she held several positions including bookmobile librarian, Young People’s Services Coordinator and Flaming Library Administrator. She is a UNLV graduate and received her MLS from San Jose State where she was one of the 40 honorees during their “40 for 40” Accreditation Celebration. Nancy currently serves on the Nevada Humanities Board, the Girl Scout Board of Northern Nevada and is a member of the Nevada Center for the Book Advisory Committee. She has been chairperson of the State Council on Libraries and Literacy since 2017. As a fourth generation Nevadan, Nancy was the first woman from Nevada to join the Peace Corps. She holds a lifetime honorary membership in NLA.
